Alasdair Murray, Nick Clegg, and Lisa Northover
Nick Clegg's visit in the week before polling day has boosted Lib Dem election hopes in the town.
In an important speech about the National Health Service and how the Lib Dems plan to protect it Nick Clegg said 'The real question that politicians now have to answer is not: How much do you love the NHS? It's, how do you protect and improve the NHS at a time like this?'
Addressing the Royal College of Nursing Conference at the BIC, Clegg spoke about the difficulties that public services face because of the huge budget deficit. In a straight-talking performance Clegg set out the issues and how the Lib Dems would deal with them.
He told the Nurses that 'we need to change the way power flows in the NHS. You should be telling us how to run it, not the other way around. Central bureaucrats, hidden behind closed doors, do not know how to cut the fat without cutting into the services people need. You do.'
As the Lib Dem momentum continues to grow, Clegg reported that earlier in the day the independent Institute for Fiscal Studies had assessed the parties' policies on the deficit and taxation and had concluded that the Liberal Democrats' plan was the most credible.
Despite his hectic schedule Nick Clegg made sure he had time to hear the latest campaign news from Alasdair Murray and Lisa Northover, the Lib Dem candidates for Bournemouth West and Bournemouth East.
