The Bourne Academy opened in September 2010, sponsored by Canford School, a local independant school. The academy provides education for students in years 7 to 11 and will offer sixth form provision from September 2013. The academy was formerly Kings High.

The school specialises in English, engineering and design.

It is a school of approxiamately 550 students.

Since becoming an academy the school has seen improvement in GCSE attainment with 46% of students receiving five good grades at GCSE including both English and Math. This represents a 9 percentage point improvement on the old school.

A £10 million refurbishment is planned to begin in February 2012.

Development Includes:

  • partial demolition,
  • redevelopment and enlargement of existing school for circa 1050 pupils and 138 F/T staff
  • incorporation of land fronting Green Lane for use as additional playing field;
  • new cycle storage areas, car park, drop-off area,
  • landscaped area and internal access roads;
  • use of an existing access on Hadow Road and the creation of a new one;
  • and new pedestrian & cycle access at NW corner of site
  • alterations and extensions to existing school buildings to provide modern and additional teaching accommodation,
  • new entrance to school,
  • and covered canopies to the courtyards
