Land survey: low flying aircraft

7.51.34am GMT Sun 30th Nov 2008

During December, a survey of the Bournemouth area and Isle of Wight will be performed from the air. The survey is part of efforts to find oil in the UK. The plane is propeller driven and will fly quite low: 350 metres over urban areas.

"I'm sure residents will wonder what is going on when they see an old plane flying very low over their homes across the Bournemouth area," says Councillor Sue Levell.

"It is necessary for technical reasons. You can find out all about the survey on their website."
